Why the paperwork? A lock only comes off for the person who rents the unit, and your ID plus one of those documents is how we know that’s you. It runs the other way too: the tech at your unit is background-checked, so the facility knows who is at the door.

Facilities with 24-hour access usually give tenants a keypad code for after the office closes, so have yours ready or plan to meet us at the keypad. Indoor climate-controlled units often have a second code for the building door, so bring that one too.

Can You Remove a Facility Overlock or Lien Lock?

No. A second lock the facility put on your unit is theirs, and only the office can take it off. Settle up with the office first, and once their lock is gone we take care of yours.

An overlock is the facility’s own lock, added over yours when rent has fallen behind or there’s a question about the lease. It’s their property on their door, so we leave it alone, and once the office pulls it we deal with yours.

Storage Unit Locks by Type: Open It, Cut It, or Replace It

Yes, a locksmith can open a storage unit, and the roll-up door and its hasp stay as they are while the lock comes off. Most storage doors carry one of two locks, the round disc lock or the shackle padlock, and each comes off a different way.
